Some people are disillusioned with politics and, with examples like this, it’s easy to see why. But be of good cheer. Our system has a lot of imperfections, but it’s not useful to compare it against some Platonic idea. We may have a government of laws, but the laws are created and implemented by humans. Humans are prone to mistakes, and our government is designed to minimize the impact of those mistakes. I don’t see many other forms of government I’d care to switch to. So, by all means, grouse, complain, and poke fun at politicians, but remember – when it’s all said and done – it’s the best game in town.
