If you want an example of why people get so frustrated with government, read this anecdote by a reporter who attempted to follow President Obama’s advice and ask the USDA a simple question about regulations impacting farmers. Sure, it’s just a single experience, but it seems quite clear that our government has become so big and complex that no one knows what’s going on and there’s little hope of keeping things coherent. While every regulation and regulatory body was started with the intent of making us better off, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the totality is not all that helpful and might even be harmful. Sometimes the whole is less than the sum of its parts.
