A Lesson For Teachers

This article, lamenting the “bullying” nature of Obama’s Education Reform, is quite interesting. I doubt that you can find a more “progressive” group of people than public school teachers. This means they favor concentrating power in government in order to “help the children”. But look what happens when that concentrated power is used in ways they don’t like! The lesson here is that concentrated power is dangerous. It will be used in ways you don’t like. While it’s tempting to support centralization to advance causes you believe in, sooner or later that concentrated power will be used in ways that you don’t favor. Limited government may be frustrating because it’s hard to get good things done, but it also makes it hard to get bad things done!
