Earmarks and Pork

Politicians understand that not all earmarks are pork, and not all pork comes in the form of an earmark. They also appreciate the ease of inserting pet projects into large spending bills without any debate or scrutiny.

I think Republicans are making a tactical mistake focusing on the earmarks in this year’s spending. It’s a comparatively small issue and, as McGurn explains, not as bad as it sounds.
