Heartless and Uncaring

That’s one writer’s summary judgement about universal health care as currently practiced elsewhere. I don’t see why ours would be any better. The nub of the problem is this: American health care is the world’s gold standard, but

  • not everyone has access to the best health care and must settle for something less
  • some people get great health care but at the expense of economic ruin

In universal health care systems, everyone gets inferior health care or waits a long time for it (perhaps dying in the process) or is wealthy enough to go abroad and pay for it themselves.

Advocates of universal health care tend to deny these obvious problems.

  1. It is the nature of those who are called Democrats to prefer that everyone receive the same substandard care over some people earning access to better care. Merit based rewards have no place in their philosophy.
