Economic Drivers & Two Americas

When I first read Arnold Kling’s list of the economic drivers of the last 30 years, my first reaction was to strongly disagree. What about NAFTA? What about the EU’s internal trade liberalization? But then I re-considered: these are small spuds compared with the PC’s evolution or the rise of the Internet. But does marriage stratification belong in the list? I’m thinking that perhaps it does. The stratifcation of marriage is creating a new caste system where the well educated marry each other, as do the not so well educated. Maybe John Edwards was right after all: there are two Americas – educated and not so educated.
