This post, and the many many comments, provide some fascinating insights into what people think about public education. My put?
- Most public schools do a pretty decent job.
- Teacher’s unions, and all the problems that go with them, exist because government is a poor employer. If I was a public school teacher, I’d want a union too!
- Vouchers would make things better for some people, but my guess is that statistically, the impact would be quite small. Vouchers will only help those kids with motivated and concerned parents - and they aren’t the problem!
Whatever happened to reform school? They may not have reformed anyone, but they kept the really disruptive kids away from those trying to learn.
